Inside The Music with Craig Fleming                                                 August 2021

Hello Everyone!

Hope everyone is doing well and surviving this heat wave we are currently experiencing in the South! It's hard to believe that as I write this month's article, we are entering the month of August! Seems like it was just recently that the General was singing "I'm so glad when it's Easter weekend, because I know it won't be long before Summer is here!", and here we are in the month of August! Well if anything good can come out of the end of Summer, at least it puts us closer to some great events coming to the beach in the Fall! SOS Fall Migration will give us the full ten days we longed for in the Spring as that event will take place September 16th - 26th. On a personal note, Pat Patterson and I will be DJ'ing at Deckerz Bar and Grill in North Myrtle Beach during Fall SOS on Friday September 24th from 12-4, and then at 4:00, we will join up with Ray Scott on the deck at Deckerz to simulcast the Wild and Crazy Deck Party on both Riptide Radio and The Large Time Radio Network! Thanks so much to Scott Beasley and Ray Scott for giving the Large Time Radio Network the opportunity to join them for this epic event! We want all the Large Timers to join us on Friday and let's show everyone at Deckerz how to have a Large Time!!

The release of new music into the market has slowed a little in the last month, but I know there will be plenty of new releases as we move closer to Fall Migration. We will do our best to keep you informed right here Inside The Music! Just a reminder to artists, bands, promoters, record labels; if you want your music featured here, be sure to send it to me at craigfleming1@att.net. If I can't play it, I can't say it; so be sure to send me your new releases!

With that being said, I was able to find a few new songs that we have not yet covered, including a few songs from some national artists, so what do you say we go Inside The Music!

Don't Cry Cry Baby - Reverend Bubba D. Liverance

In the April edition of Inside The Music, I reviewed Reverend Bubba's new release All About You, which has stormed up all of the major Beach Music charts. I also mentioned that his new album, Void Outlaw Dark Lion, contained several more songs that could receive major airplay and chart action. Don't Cry Cry Baby was one of them! Bubba released this song a couple of weeks ago and it has already reached #32 on John Hook's Beach Music Top 40 and #30 on Eric Bowman's New Beach Music Countdown! Look for this song to continue to rise up the charts in the coming months as it contains everything we have come to expect from the Right Reverend: catchy lyrics, smoking horns, and outstanding vocals and production! To download Don't Cry Cry Baby and the rest of the great tunes on Void Outlaw Dark Lion, go to I Tunes today!! You will be glad you did. It is a MUST for your Beach Music collection!

The Twist - Russell Henry

What a treasure Russell Henry is! Russell spent over 50 years with The Drifters and his Beach Music legacy is secure, but he keeps turning out hits at the ripe young age of eighty one!! Russell has given us True Love, Drip Drop, You're So Fine, When You Dance, and his latest release The Twist is starting to climb the charts now; debuting at #30 this week on Eric Bowman's New Beach Music Countdown. Russell gives us an amazing vocal performance on his version of The Twist and gives it a beat that you can easily twist to or even shag to! Russell and his wife Barbara are now living at the beach, and they are frequent visitors to Deckerz Bar and Grill in North Myrtle Beach, especially on Friday for Riptide Radio's Wild and Crazy Deck Party! I have had the pleasure of spending time with Russell and Barbara there, and have witnessed Russell perform there numerous times! What an outstanding gentleman and ambassador for Carolina Beach Music! If you get an opportunity to get to Deckerz on a Friday afternoon, you just may get a chance to see this Beach Music legend in person! You will not be disappointed; he is still getting it done at eighty one! Just watch him do The Twist!

Black Creek - Rivermist

The guys from Rivermist are still riding high with their release "Beach Life" which is still charting on most of the major Beach Music charts. It is currently #15 on Riptide Radio's Top 20, and #34 on John Hook's Beach Music Top 40. A few weeks back, the band released their latest tune Black Creek, and it is starting to garner chart action as it is currently #28 on Eric Bowman's New Beach Music Countdown! The song sparked the creation of a line dance and a video as well! Check out the video on You Tube and visit http://www.rivermistband.com to download this fun new tune! Look for more new tunes from Rivermist as they are currently working with Doyle Wood and Daxwood Studios on a full CD project. Can't wait to hear more from this talented group of guys!!

California Sun - Smitty and the JumpStarters

Smitty and the JumpStarters have gotten a lot of life out of their recent CD Let's Get JumpStarted! Two songs reached #1 on John Hook's Roadhouse Blues and Boogie Top 40: Rock With Me, and Let's Go Jumpin'. Three songs have appeared on the Beach Music Top 40, including Hey! Ba - Ba - Re - Bop. Their latest release California Sun is starting to garner chart action as it is currently #24 on Eric Bowman's New Beach Music Countdown! This is an outstanding party type tune with a very cool video to go along with it. If you haven't seen the video for this song go to new album out and check it out! You can also download the latest album from Smitty and The JumpStarters there and find out more about this veteran group of musicians from the Triad area of North Carolina. I love the Carolina Sun but I am loving me some California Sun as well!!

Sweet Darling - Tammy Nance

Tammy Nance has been a fixture on the local Beach Music scene with her group Tammy's Tangent appearing in clubs all along the Grand Strand. Well Tammy has released a solo tune into the Beach Music market and it is starting to make some noise! Sweet Darling was featured on Eric Bowman's New Beach Music Countdown several weeks ago and it has climbed to #22 on his chart! This bluesy number fits Tammy's voice perfectly; and combined with a beat the dancers will love, I expect this song to see action on other charts in the near future. I hope we hear more from Tammy Nance!!

Ray Of Hope - The Six Piece Suits

The Six Piece Suits burst on to the Beach Music scene recently with their smokin' cover of The Chairmen Of The Board classic Dangling On A String. That song is still climbing John Hook's Beach Music Top 40 at #7, and was also included on the new KHP Music compilation Which Way To The Beach. Well the boys from Pensacola, Florida are at it again with their latest release Ray Of Hope. The song was featured as Eric Bowman's Lighthouse Look Out Song a few weeks back and it is starting to gain some traction in the market. I don't ask for much but would somebody please book this party band in North Myrtle Beach! I know I would be first in line to see this group of talented young musicians!

It's Gonna Be Alright - Roger Smith

Roger Smith recently gave us Sweet Summertime, a smooth shag groove featured on the KHP Music compilation CD Which Way To The Beach. Roger released the follow up It's Gonna Be Alright a couple of weeks ago and the song is already starting to garner chart action; most recently appearing at #29 on Eric Bowman's New Beach Music Countdown. This song fits into the same smooth groove as Sweet Summertime and I expect this song to move up the charts in the coming months! As a member of The Poor Souls, Roger's Beach Music legacy is secure, but he continues his legacy by giving us great tunes like It's Gonna Be Alright!

This month I thought I would mention a few tunes from some national artists that are getting some airplay across the Beach Music airwaves:

Old Love Song - Zac Brown Band

Country Music superstar Zac Brown has an affiliation with Carolina Beach Music as his Mom and Dad grew up loving the music and the dance! Zac has had a few tunes that have crossed over into the market including Overnight, but none have been in the pocket like this one! Ray Scott of Riptide Radio said recently that he had been communicating with Zac's Mom about Zac  releasing a shag song. Well I don't know if Zac intended this to be a shag song, but if he did, he hit it out of the park! This tune is already #35 on John Hook's Beach Music Top 40 and I'm sure it will rise in the coming months! DJ's if you are not playing this one, you need to be! Your dancers will be glad you did! You can download Old Love Song from I Tunes. Add it to your collection today! You will be glad you did!

Paul Stanley's Soul Station - Now And Then

Yes that Paul Stanley! The legendary Kiss front man has a new side project called Paul Stanley's Soul Station and they released their debut project in March of this year entitled Now And Then. Folks here is my advice on this project: Go to I Tunes and download the entire album! It is available for a ridiculously low price of $6.99. The CD contains five original songs and nine covers of legendary Soul classics including Could It Be I'm Falling In Love, Just My Imagination, The Tracks Of My Tears, Let's Stay Together, You Are Everything, and Baby I Need Your Loving. My favorite is the original tune I, Oh I. I could just see someone from our market like Craig Woolard nailing this tune. Hint hint Craig Woolard and Chris Biehler! Anyway, check it out on I Tunes and download this entire album! I promise you will be glad you did!

Be on the look out for:

A new CD compilation from Forevermore Music entitled Soul Steppin' Volume2: No Surfin' Zone. Chris Biehler said on his Facebook page that he gets tired of explaining to his New York friends that The Beach Boys are not Beach Music! It's Surf Music, thus the title of the new release! You tell em Chris! LOL! The new Cd will contain six previously released tunes which are ALL currently charting on John Hook's Beach Music Top 40:

No Matter - Little John Thompson: Currently #3 on The Beach Music Top 40, but I predicted in the April version of Inside The Music that this song would hit #1! Looks like I will be right in the coming weeks! This song is also currently #3 on Riptide Radio's Top 20! Also go to You Tube and check out the video for this song. Little John produced the video and he did an amazing job!!

Ordinary Joe - Molly Askins Ford: Currently #14 on The Beach Music Top 40

Oh Happy Day - Sammy O'Banion: Currently #13 on The Beach Music Top 40

You To Me Are Everything - Craig Woolard: Currently #21 on The Beach Music Top 40, #8 on Riptide Radio's Top 20, and #4 on Eric Bowman's New Beach Music Countdown!

Big Time Scoop - Tony Galla: Currently #19 on The Beach Music Top 40

My Brother My Brother - Russell Thompkins, Jr: Currently #31 on The Beach Music Top 40

There will also be a new Jackie Gore release as well as new Jay Proctor and many others! I can't wait for the release of this project from the studios of Forevermore Music! Chris Biehler always provides us with some of the most talented artists in the industry; and coupled with the second to none production we have come to expect from Forevermore Music, this project will be a must add to your Beach Music collection! For updates on the release of this project, check out Chris Biehler's Facebook page or go to http://www.forvermoremusic.com

Well folks that's it for this month. If you get a chance to come to Deckerz on Friday, September 24th for Fall Migration I would love to meet you! In the meantime, we will do our best to keep you informed on what is going on Inside The Music!

See ya at the beach!

Craig
